The Anti Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Movement, Now What?
The United States Supreme Court declared race-based affirmative action violates the equal-protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. According to the majority opinion, the use of affirmative action by colleges and universities to admit a diverse student body violates the guarantee of equal protection of the laws and the prohibition on discrimination based on race.
For many Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) employees and certified, minority, owned, women and historically underutilized businesses who sell goods and services to corporate America, it is only a matter of time before this decision impacts how corporations hire and buy goods and services because the origin of policies like Affirmative Action were designed with the ambition of helping America go from a segregated society to an equitable, integrated society.
In 2015, I left Ogilvy & Mather to start Reframe and began the journey of modernizing the practice of diversity, equity and inclusion and multicultural marketing because I had the foresight to see this coming. The Supreme Court decision is an anti – diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) position and will likely have a reverberating impact across every for profit and not – for – profit organization.
Because we saw this coming, we’ve been testing, learning, developing and validating our services and software innovation with over 40 F500 brands and not-for-profit organizations. Reframe offers a modern approach to DEI that first seeks to understand how culturally mature your organization is or is not across its strategy, structure, (employee/customer) segments, systems and solutions. The Reframe Cultural Maturity Assessment™ is an innovation and requires education about a new approach with new language.
Given the recent Supreme Court decision it is incumbent upon every organization to explore new ways of building inclusive experiences that go beyond race, ethnicity and identity. We invite you explore the following:
