Season One, Episode One: Challenging The Industry From The Inside, Out
To kick-off the season, episode one guest, Marla Kaplowitz and Jeffrey L. Bowman talk about what its like to challenge the industry from the inside, out. Similar to the book, Reframe The Marketplace: The Total Market Approach To Reaching The New Majority, we kick-off framing the industry opportunity.
In the book, Reframe The Marketplace, chapter one title is Separate But Equal – The World’s Worst Marketing Challenge. Chapter one traces the origins of the marketing and communications industry. It is about the formation of what we know today as the “general market” and “multicultural” agency models. How did the industry form and create the idea of being separate and not equal in terms of brand funding?
It was really important to have a guest and a voice from an industry association. Similar to the book, the goal was to have a conversation about the role industry associations play and what they are doing to change to reflect the New Majority from the inside, out.
In episode one of the Change Podcast by Reframe, Jeffrey interviews Marla and discusses her career journey, the role of the 4A’s in advocating for agencies, and the challenges of achieving inclusivity in marketing. They explore the evolution of advertising, the importance of media transparency, and the future of agency models. Marla reflects on her leadership experience and the need for continued advocacy and change within the industry.
